βOh, you austere-hearted beloved, why are you longing?
Why are you thinking of the owl, considering that you are the soul of Huma?β
β Rumi
Meeting ourselves exactly where we are requires a unique, subjective approach to surrender that may manifest through radical acceptance of the austerity of our souls. This austerity creates space for the coexistence of dualities: the light and the shadow, our strengths and flaws, our evil and benevolence. By allowing this coexistence, we can become simple observers of our true selves, stripped of any shame, guilt, and prejudice we may carry, enabling us to transcend to a higher level of consciousness.
In this performance/ritual, Roja and Devon Rex invite you to reflect on how ready we all are to meet our most austere soul, which could shape our approach to intimacy through a holistic exchange during a rope session, enhanced by live Iranian traditional soundscapes and Farsi Sufi poetry as mantras of surrender.
Join us on this alchemical journey where we channel (sometimes dreaded) sexual energy through ropes, all while immersing ourselves in traditional Iranian Sufi sounds and poetry from an intersectional feminist perspective.

*In Iranian mythology, Huma (or “Huma bird”) is a legendary bird said to bring good fortune and happiness. It is often depicted as a large mythical bird that never lands on the ground and is associated with the soul and spiritual enlightenment.
